NEW!! NORTH SAILS ORIGINAL RADIAL CUT COMPUTER MOULD DESIGN SYSTEM

North Sails One Design Japan have been developing this design system since 2001 with extensive sail testing sessions together with the world's top sailors. And now we have released the new base models after a long time preparation and testing.

RADIAL CUT means...
By having radial cut panel layouts with the investigation about stress direction through the whole sail area, we can have not only the lightest cloth but also a lot more durability with sail shape. Especially the strongest direction of the cloth laid along the leech. And there are much less horizontal seams which join the cloth along the leech, so the leech stretches less. For these reasons you can have more stability in the flying shape. As we use the most appropriate sail cloth for the radial panel layout, this makes these things work more effectively.

COMPUTER MOULD DESIGN SYSTEM means...
All of the panels have a slight amount of shape (curve) which is calculated by computer and shaped by a laser cutter. That is why you can have perfectly smooth, fair and stable sail shapes. Once you have tuned the rig with the basic design sail, the photo images taken of the mainsail from under the middle of the boom, from the side and behind while sailing in 8-10 knots wind (full power condition without vang) will give us all the information needed to develop the sail shape customized to your sailing weight, mast bend characteristics both forward and side ways, and the conditions you expect to encounter. You can access your favorite and ideal sail shape you want very quickly and accurately. You can have any kind of shape and changes quite freely on the computer mould once we have pictures. But the new base designs already has the shape well organized, so some sailors might not feel the need to change anything....

SN9+ Mainsail -- 2006 & 2008 World Championship -- winner mainsail!

  • The SN-9+ is a further development of our successful SN-9 Main. Made slightly deeper in the top third of the sail to allow the upper leech to stand up more and give more power. This is a fantastic all-purpose cross-cut main. This sail won the 2006 World Championships with Nik Asher and Elliot Willis and 2006 Olympic Test Event with Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield. It was also used by Rogers and Glanfied to take Silver at the Athens Olympic Games and win the European Championships.

  • For SuperSpars M7+ or Proctor Cumulus masts .

  • Mainsails include: vision window, battens, sail numbers, telltales, insignia and sail bag.
  • Made in-house in our San Diego loft.

N10-L5 Mainsail

  • The N10-L5 is designed to fit masts of medium to soft stiffness.

  • This design is developed from N9-L5; however, it has a little more luff curve and slightly more depth in the top section. The result is more comfortable twist because of the depth at top, giving you a wider groove through pointing and speed modes; and, it even works well in choppy conditions!
  • For SuperSpars M7+ or Proctor Cumulus masts.

  • Includes: vision window, battens, sail numbers, telltales, insignia and sail bag.

  • You can customize your North radial main. This is one of the biggest advantage of North Radial. Customize will be done according to your mast bend profile, sailing weight, or target wind range. Use the North Sails One Design Mast Deflection Test. Send our experts the data and we’ll help you select the best mainsail model.

N9-L5 Main -- Top Olympic Circuit Model!

  • Used by many of the top teams in the World, the N9-L5 is optimized from the Foerester/Burnham Gold Medal winning design. It is a product of the latest advanced air flow analysis system. We brought many effective ideas to this mainsail from development process. It has a slightly fuller top and flatter bottom compared to the rest of the models. Excellent in all conditions if used with the proper mast.

C21-L5 Main -- Olympic Gold in 2004!

A9R2+L4 Main -- US Olympic Trials Winning Design

This is the design won the Worlds in 2003 and the 2008 US Olympic Trials. It is used by some of the World's top-ranked sailors and performs in all conditions for lighter teams. The main has a slightly flatter head than the N9 and N10 series sails and a straighter exit. A generous luff curve helps it fit softer masts, mostly SuperSpar M7+.

Other Mains

Other models are available, including the new rocked-batten N12-L9, N11-L5 for stiff Yahmaha masts, and N10-L5(H) for SuperSpar/Proctor masts

Customized Design for perfect fit

S14-B4 Jib -- 2007 World Winning Design!!

Our most popular jib is the S5-B4 design which has a deer entry and straight exit and performs well across the range, especially in choppy conditions. The S13-B4, on the other hand, has a flatter entry with a nice top twist leech profile and is intended for flat water. This new S14-B4 design has the entry in between the S5 and the S13, but has similar top twist to the S13. It works well in the regatta conditions in which you may have both off-shore winds (flat water) and on-shore winds (usually choppy or with swell). It also works for the sailor who likes to constantly play rig tension in a breeze.

A-4 Jib -- 2006 World Championship Jib!

  • The A-4 cross cut Jib was a new sail for the Athens Olympic developed from our winning SA-5 jib. Made deeper in the top 1/3, the sail is excellent through the range of conditions.

  • Used to great effect for the first time when Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield used it to win the 2004 Europeans and Silver Medal at the Athens Olympic. Recently the sail won both the 2006 Olympic Test Event and the 2006 World Championships!
  • Includes: vision window, optional luff wire (please specify) and sail bag.

  • Made in-house at our San Diego loft.

S5-B4 Jib -- 2004 Olympic Gold Jib!

  • Paul and Kevin found the obvious difference in speed when they tried it for the first time. The S5-B4 is easy to steer to, build speed with, and trim. The jib is powerful in all conditions.

  • Includes: carbon battens, vision window, optional 7 x 19 luff wire (please specify) and sail bag.

Other Jibs

Other Jibs are a vailable, including the flat entry S4-B2 jib, designed for less rig tension and breezy conditions.

V3 SPINNAKER -- Newly Developed Progressive Design!

The new V3 is similar in total depth to the A2, but more stable and easier to trim. It has a slightly smaller project area than A2. The ease of trim and stability is the advantage of this design. It gives a chance for crew to focus more on waves. It also works well in very light conditions and is easy to fly away from the boat.

A2 SPINNAKER -- Top share of the Olympic fleet!

  • Based upon the 2000 Gold Medal-winning A1, the A2 has the widest projected area. It is both a powerful runner and is good for reaching. This is the best spinnaker for all-round performance.

  • 60% of the Olympic fleet uses the A2, including the 2004 and 2005 World Champions.

  • Colors: Light.Blue / White.

AP-8 SPINNAKER -- 2006 World Champion Spinnaker !

  • The AP-8 Spinnaker is designed as an all-round spinnaker with a flying shape half way between the V2 and A2.
  • Used to win the 2006 World Championships and 2006 Olympic Test Event.

  • Colors: Contact us for options.

  • Made in-house at our San Diego loft.

V2 SPINNAKER -- 2004 Olympic Gold Spinnaker! !

  • Flatter than both the A2 and AP-8, the V2 has excellent performance especially in light wind and reaching in all conditions and also running on flat water. It is a good design for light-weight crews. It has a flatter shape than other two designs. The sail is designed to increase the space between the main and spinnaker without closing the top leech of the spinnaker, making it ideal for tight reaches.
