PRSA SPRING REGATTA 2003
May 24-25
Alexandria, VA

Fifteen Interlake's participated in the second regatta on the 2003 ISCA Traveler's Schedule for 2003. The regatta was a double-counter, which helped attract many of the top competitors in the Class.

On Saturday the wind was light to nothing with lots of tidal current. The RC waited three hours before getting off two races. The races were sailed in the landing path for Washington National Airport, which generated lots of wingtip vorticies on the water. The regatta was jokingly re-named the "Jet Wash" Regatta by those unfamiliar with sailing in this area.

Sunday provided light breezes with intermittent drizzle, but enough wind to get three good races in and make it a legitimate regatta. North dominated.

2003 Interlake Chief's Regatta - North DOMINATED!

Report by Skip Dieball

The 2003 Season Opener for the Interlake Class was held May 3,4 in Columbus at Leatherlips Yacht Club. Twenty-eight boats from all over the Midwest & Mid-Atlantic showed up for great weather. The winds on Saturday were 5-15 and there were two great races sailed. Sunday’s wind was on the lighter side and only one race was completed. A number of sailors had a tougher time on Sunday due to the inconsistent breezes.

North Customer & Circuit Rep Scott Savage had a great regatta adding to his many recent victories! Scott said:

"We managed a 1 - 3 while George scored a 4 - 1. Tim Boucher and Jamie Jones were lurking in third. Sunday was light and shifty. We managed a win and George hung on for 2nd overall. Great hospitality, and Savage Specials for Sailors Hour. Boats from Traverse and from D.C. Thanks to North for all the support!”

Of the many folks that traveled to the event, Martin Howell logged some major hours coming from Washington D.C. Martin sailed with his brand new North Sails and said:

“The new North sails performed excellent. They were simple to dial in and set up, regardless of the wind conditions. The boat is tuned pretty much exactly to the tuning guide (I haven't had time yet this spring to experiment with it). We had great pointing ability and great speed all the way around. Thanks Skip!”

Top 10:

1. Scott Savage 1340 LYC 5 points
2. George Fisher 1174 HSC 10 points
3. Brad Balmert 1384 LSC 16
4. Bob Bradley 1332 JRSC 16
5. Hank Boissoneault 1182 SSC 18
6. Jamie Jones 1267 HSC 19
7. Tim Boucher 757 LYC 26
8. Jeff Clark 1370 HSC 28
9. Carolyn Tanner 1240 LYC 32
10. Steve Aspery 1335 HSC 35

2002 Interlake Nationals - North 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10*!

Report by Scott Savage

August 15, 2002 Port Clinton, Ohio

40 boats competed for the Interlake National Championship sailed at the Port Clinton Yacht Club.
Competitors were greeted to a 7 race series with winds in the 12-20knts with fairly smooth water.
The series was extremely hard fought up front with the top 4 boats in the hunt down to the last race. When the smoke settled Scott&Lynn Savage of Leatherlips Yacht Club had won with Tim&Mark Boucher also from Leatherlips a single point behind. Marion Zaugg rounded out the top 3.

The top 4 boats carried full North inventories as did the majority of the top 10. The all around capabilities of the sails was welcomed by the lighter 2 person crews who could depower and still remain competitive in an open water /moderate wind environment. Three person crews welcomed the pointing and straight-line speed offered by the North.

The Junior Nationals were won by Dave Alvarado, Martha Fisher & Suzy Lintern of Hoover Yacht Club, also powered by North!

2002 Interlake Season Opener - Chief's Regatta

May, 2002 - Glad to report that our customers dominated the 2002 Chief's regatta in Columbus, Ohio this past weekend. A great turnout of 30 boats found extremely light and variable conditions all weekend. In the end three races were completed and Tim Boucher won with Scott Savage 2nd and Steve Aspery 3rd.

Of the 30 boats, only TWO boats had sails from a loft other than North!!!

I spent the weekend helping the group get tuned, taking pictures and video. The weather was great even though the wind didn't totally cooperate.

Hooray for the Midwestern Spring!!!!

2001 Intelake Nationals - North Sails 1,2,3,4,5!

Report by Greg Fisher

August 2, 2001 - This past week the Interlake Class held its Nationals at Traverse City, Michigan. 45 boats sailed in a wide range of conditions with the last two races sailed in light shifty stuff tht made even grown men cry ( yours truly!). My daughter and I crewed for my Dad (Ralph Fisher) and he won his 11th National Championship in this strong regional class.

In fact North Sails were 1,2,3,4,5 overall, won the Challenger division and the Juniors ( my 14 yr old daughter steered her first one for the win! I'm not proud or anything...!) In fact again, all the these positions were taken by Interlake sailors from Columbus!

1999 INTERLAKE NATIONALS - NORTH ONCE AGAIN DOMINATED!

August 15, 1999 - We just finished up the Interlake Nationals at Put In Bay, Ohio( an island about 3 miles off the coast of Northern Ohio). While the turnout was a bit modest ( 30 boats) all the really good guys were there. I crewed for my Dad( with Greg Shea) and we were fortunate to win...his 10th time I believe.

Scott Irwin with Skip Dieball as crew( last year's champions) were second followed by Scott Savage of Columbus. We sailed in primarilly light sloppy conditions although some serious breeze was expected( and hoped for!).

It was a great one for the sails as we had 1,2,3,5,7,8,9,10 and there was probably 5 sets altogether that were not North. Needless to say, the Interlake Class is happy with our sails and our continued service. I think we'll be looking forward to a great fall in the Interlake Class.
