North Sails has a very long history of involvement
with the J/24 class. In fact we have been making fast sails for
the boat ever since the first boat was built back in 1977. 22 years
later we are still intimately involved with the class. In fact year
in and year out North Sails makes more sails for the J/24 than any
other class.
With over 5300 boats built and sailing around the world the
J/24 is truly an international class. To reflect this North One
Design has two lofts in the US that specifically service the class
and North lofts in Japan, Italy, Argentina and Australia that
sell and service our designs. No matter where in the world you
sail your J/24 there is a knowledgeable and responsive service
team ready to help you get the most from your boat and sails.
The North J/24 sail development program is centered in the United
States at our North One Design lofts in San Diego, California
and Newport, Rhode Island. North One Design is headed up by two-time
J/24 World Champion, Vince Brun. Vince, who sailed in the first-ever
J/24 Midwinters in Key West in 1978. Vince oversees the sale and
development of the two sets of sails we currently offer for the
J/24. |

A
lot of things change over the course of 20 years (take the J/24 rulebook
for example)! One major change that occurred in our business was in
1995 when one of North's long time competitor's Ken Read and his powerful
loft joined the North group. For years Kenny and North had been fighting
it out the top of the J/24 class. At that time we faced a decision,
what should we do with the two models of sails that we would now have
to offer the J/24 client?
After looking carefully at both sets of sails we
determined that there were significant differences between the two sets
of sails and that to eliminate one set of designs would be doing a disservice
to our customers especially the ones who had gotten used to the designs
we might eliminate. We also figured that over time we would be able
to determine which sails worked best in certain conditions and sailing
styles of our clients. Another important reason was that we did not
want to stifle the creativity of the awesome sail design team we had
managed to assemble. The drive to develop and tinker with sail designs
is deep inside the world's best sailmakers and our goal is to continually
strive to make our sails better. Having two strong teams (in San Diego
and Newport) developing sails for us further insures that your North
Sails will be the fastest they can be.
Check
out our models:
With wins in 13 of the 21 World Championships the
class has held plus countless National and Continental Championships there
is no surer way of getting the best speed from your J/24 than choosing
North Sails. As the class enters the 21st century our team is ready to
put your team on top.

J24 RACING CLINICS
"I can not tell you enough how valuable the information
was that we got from the clinic. Charlie Enright
was on target with the detail he provided for the J/24 group.
Thank you for bringing them to Lake George."

"Hi Chris,
We
are back in Argentina after sailing the J 24 Worlds in
Osaka.Talking about the regatta, we established an early
lead but a typhoon near Japan brought calm and very shifty
conditions for the last 3 days of racing. On the last race
we were tied with Kazuyki Hyodo from Japan, but we did
not define it well, so we finish second overall.
The sails arrived
perfectly. They look perfect as usual, and we always have
a speed edge especially when the wind increased. The good
news for you is that North Sails made 1, 2 and 3. Thanks
again for everything."

"I bought a set of North Newport J/24 sails from you last December. I'm
happy to say I've won several regattas with them this year, 2002, on my boat "Moofasta" J/24
3970. We won the Barefoot Sailing Club Barefoot Open J/24 class at Lake Lanier,
the Lake Lanier Sailing Club One Design Open and the District 8.
I also crewed with Mike Foster J/24 2420, "Turn
and Burn" to win the Miss Piggy "Kidnapped" regatta
in Augusta, GA last weekend. He also bought a set of sails
from you last Nov/Dec on the fleet discount.
Just thought I'd let you know I
was VERY pleased with the sails and will probably run these
another year, but I'll be back to North again in the Fall
of 2003 for another set!
