MC-2 800L Mainsail

With over 3 years of on the water sail testing and improvements, North Sails has released the latest generation Melges 32 Mainsail. Using all carbon threads and a more versatile, user friendly shape, this latest edition has produced results in a variety of conditions. The overall shape of the 800L main still features a twisty profile, but with a fuller bottom section when compared to the popular 600M Mainsail. Together with the lightest, strongest materials on the planet, proprietary 3DL technology and the shapes of world class sail designers, the 800L Mainsail is the answer for Melges 32 programs looking to succeed.

  • Sail Area – 461.36 square feet
  • DPI – 12,600

MA-2 600M Mainsail

Using all Aramid threads and a twisty profile with a flat bottom section, the 600M mainsail is a perfect sail for Melges 32 programs looking to perform, while saving some extra cash. The 600M main has been very successful in the past, winning the prestigious 2007 Key West Race Week and the 2007 Nationals and will perform well in a variety of conditions. As with all of our products, the 600M mainsail features the latest technology and materials available through North Sails Worldwide.

  • Sail Area – 461.36 square feet
  • DPI – 12,600

Mainsails include:

  • RBS Full Length and Tapered Battens
  • Internal Batten pockets for smoother tacks and gybes
  • Choice of Colored Numbers and Draft Stripes (Blue, Black, Red, Green)
  • Kevlar Spreader Patches
  • Reinforced Reef Points
  • Kevlar Reinforced head, clew and tack patches
  • North Sails sail ties
  • IRC Certificate
  • Leech Telltales
  • Jib Leech/Spreader window in mainsail
  • Vision window in mainsail

LC-2 800L Light Jib

The 800L Light jib features 100% Carbon threads for the ultimate combination of durability and performance. North headsails also feature Kevlar reinforced head, clew and tack patches to get your sails through the rigors of Melges 32 racing. With a lower thread count when compared to the medium or heavy jibs, the Light jib can be carried in up to 10 knots and answers the call for a combination of finesse and speed that is needed for light air racing.

  • Sail Area – 254.25 square feet
  • DPI – 8,820

MC-2 800L Medium Jib

This sail features a sail area that is similar to the Light jib but has a higher thread count for increased durability and a flatter, more draft forward, shape for better performance in stronger wind. Designed for a breeze range of 7-22 knots, this sail is ultra fast in both flat water and big wave venues. The Medium jib also features 100% Carbon threads for the maximum in durability, weight savings and overall performance.

  • Sail Area – 239.40 square feet
  • DPI – 16,800

HC-2 800L Heavy Jib

When the breeze is really howling, and you need to reduce sail area to keep the boat on its feet, our 3DL 800L heavy jib is the answer. This sail features a smaller sail area than the Light or Medium jibs, yet it still provides the performance and handling you need in One-Design racing. Featuring 100% Carbon threads, the Heavy jib provides unquestionable durability and performance for the best Mother Nature has to offer.

  • Sail Area – 223.79 Square feet
  • DPI – 19,600

***All of our headsails are also offered in 860M which is a blend of Carbon/Aramid threads. This is a more affordable alternative for Melges 32 programs looking to succeed, while saving some extra cash.

All North Headsails include:

  • Tell-tale windows in luff of jib
  • Custom luff tape for Melges 32 headfoil
  • North Sails “Turtle” bags for flaking of jibs
  • Stainless clew and tack rings
  • Luff loaded battens to eliminate snagging spinnaker during maneuvers
  • Leech tell-tales
  • Reinforced head, clew and tack patches

As the Melges 32 has developed so has the downwind sail inventory for this high performance racing boat. In an effort to provide the best sail for a variety of conditions, North Sails has produced the following line-up of Melges 32 Spinnakers:

A3
(Formerly Max-Runner Code 2A-3)

The A3 is our largest spinnaker in terms of sail area and is the ideal selection for when sailing in the dead down wind mode. Built to the maximum mid-girth, this sail is perfect for the 7-13 wind range in either flat, or choppy conditions.

Sail Area – 1,337 sq feet

A2

(Formerly AP Runner/Reacher Code 2A)

When trying to find the groove downwind, there is no better sail the than the A2. With a flatter profile and smaller sail area than the A3, this sail performs very well in lighter conditions, or when the 32 wants to get up and plane. Designed and geared for a more apparent wind forward position, the A2 is simply the best performing spinnaker on the market. Ideal for wind ranges: 4-8, 13-25.

Sail Area – 1,302 sq feet

Melges 32 Class Rule allow for 2 spinnakers to be carried on the boat while racing. North Sails recommends the A3 and A2 as the primary spinnakers to be used for One Design Racing.

A1
(Small Reacher 1A/3A)

This sail was originally used for light/heavy air conditions in Melges 32 racing, but was found to be a bit small for buoy and One Design Racing. This sail is ideal when the breeze is very light, or when the breeze is really pumping and extra stability and control are desired.

Sail Area – 1,184 sq feet

CODE 0A Reacher

The ultimate sail for PHRF racing! The Code 0 is built out of 774 sq feet of Norlan 1.7 cloth and is the sail to have when you need to sail tighter angles. This sail really excels in light to moderate conditions. Available in white only.

All North Spinnakers include:

  • Choice of color and design – Preview colors and designs using “Color Me Fast”
  • Application of custom graphics (graphics require additional cost)
  • Choice of colored numbers (blue, black, red or green)
  • Belly Patches for retrieval line
  • Reinforced head, clew and tack patches
